Description

On Saturday April 29 and Sunday April 30, the “Nederlands Hoornisten Genootschap” organises an international horn competition for conservatory students and young professional horn players. 42 talented young horn players, from 19 different countries, participated in the qualifying round, a tape audition. Based on the submitted audio and video recordings, 18 candidates were selected for the live audience performances, during the competition in April in the “Muziekcentrum van de Omroep” in Hilversum.

The following horn players were selected: Martijn Appelo (Netherlands), Liang Hanxuan (China), Lidia Olthof (Netherlands), Adrian Diaz Martinez (Spain), David Fliri (Italy), Christian Palau Tena (Spain), Gabriel Dambricourt (France), Benjamin Goldscheider (Great-Britain), Cristiana Custodio (Portugal), Felix Peijnenborgh (Netherlands), Sytske Pas (Norway), Aleksi Makimattila (Finland), Libor van der Boom (Netherlands), Alexander Zanetta (France), James Bakirtzis (Australia), Rodrigo Ortiz Serrano (Spain), Emma Van den Ecker (Belgium), Margaux Ortman (Belgium).

The jury consists of internationally renowned horn players: Günter Högner (former solo horn of the Wiener Philharmoniker), Eric Terwilliger (solo horn of the symphony orchestra of the Bayerische Rundfunk), André Cazalet (solo horn of the Orchestre de Paris), Hermann Baumann (horn soloist, famous horn pedagogue) and Paulien Weierink-Goossen (member of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and winner of the first horn competition of the “Nederlands Hoornisten Genootschap”). The compulsory piece “Horn of Plenty” is a new work for horn solo, by the Dutch composer Jeppe Moulijn, commissioned by the NHG for this competition.
