William Harbison's "Caprice for Horn and Piano" has been added to the IHS Online Music Sales library.
This is the composer's description of the piece: "The Caprice for Horn and Piano opens with a flourish that introduces the principal motivic and harmonic material of the work. This introductory passage leads to a spirited dance (A) that makes significant technical demands of the hornist. A more lyrical second theme (B) follows. The cadenza-like opening material interrupts the flow of the work, and a contrasting, serene section (C) ensues. The faster tempo (A) returns for a development passage that is interrupted again by the cadenza material, followed by a varied restatement of the serene music (C). The A and B sections are revisited in a varied format. One final interruption of the cadenza prepares for the lively coda that concludes the work.The Caprice for Horn and Piano was composed for Karen Robertson, horn. Dr. Robertson performed with premier of the composition in October 2011 with Bair Shagdaron accompanying."
