Paul Austin

Decades of teaching and motivating private horn students. Degrees in both Horn Performance (DMA and MM/University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music) and Music Education (BS/Tennessee Tech University). Extended training as a Resident Artist at the Banff Centre for the Arts (Alberta, Canada) and a Gilmore Emerging Artist (London, England). Author of "A Modern Valve Horn Players Guide to the Natural Horn."

Former horn faculty member in Michigan at Grand Valley State University, Interlochen Center for the Arts (Adult Chamber Music Camp), Western Michigan University (one-year sabbatical replacement), and Central Michigan University (one-semester sabbatical replacement; in Ohio at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Preparatory Department, Wright State University, and the University of Dayton (one-semester sabbatical replacement); and in Louisiana at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

Currently Section Horn with the Grand Rapids Symphony (1999 to present). Have held horn section positions in Michigan with the West Michigan Symphony and Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra, in Ohio with the Dayton Philharmonic, in Illinois with the Chicago Chamber Orchestra, in Indiana with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, and in West Virginia with the West Virginia Symphony. Performed in summer music festivals in Michigan at the Chamber Music Festival of Saugatuck and Fontana Chamber Arts, and in Illinois at the Southern Illinois Music Festival. Have given horn/organ recitals throughout the US and Europe with Gregory Crowell. Performed the Strauss First Horn Concerto with the Holland Symphony Orchestra.
