Registration, Rules and Repertoire Requirements

Horn Ensemble Competition – Youth Division

Repertoire

  1. Select a minimum of 7 minutes of music, not to exceed 15 minutes.
  2. Group may select a single movement(s) out of a multi-movement work.
  3. Remaining program should be diverse and should highlight the Ensemble’s strengths.
  4. Chosen repertoire should be performed one on a part, no doubled parts.

Competition Rules and Regulations

  1. All Ensemble members must be born on January 1, 2006 or later. Members can be students; the only criterion is age.
  2. Horn Ensemble is defined as 6 or more players.
  3. Wagner tubas are allowed in the Ensemble. Any other instruments are not allowed.
  4. All Ensemble members must be registered for the full week of IHS 58.
  5. Competition registration deadline is May 20, 2026.
  6. Individual members are responsible for their own travel, room and board, IHS 58 registration, etc.
  7. One Ensemble member should be designated as the contact person and should complete the registration form.
  8. Chosen repertoire should be performed one on a part, no doubled parts.
  9. Chosen repertoire may have a varying number of parts, for example, a 6-horn piece followed by a 12-horn piece, as long as there is one person on a part.
  10. The IHS58 Horn Ensemble Competition Committee has the right to cancel a winner at no cost to IHS58 if the winner fails to abide by all Competition Rules and Regulations.
  11. Competition Judges reserve the right to not declare a winner.
  12. Ensembles may perform with or without a conductor.
  13. Winning Ensemble will perform at the Awards Concert which is planned on Saturday, July 11, 2026 (may be changed).
  14. For those wishing to apply for multiple competitions, please submit separate forms.

  2. Group may select a single movement(s) out of a multi-movement work.
  3. Remaining program should be diverse and should highlight the Ensemble’s strengths.
  4. Chosen repertoire should be performed one on a part, no doubled parts.
