Greeting - Horn and More, July 2026

bernardo3 190Finally, summer has arrived, bringing with it high temperatures across Europe! So relax a bit, maybe have a refreshing drink, and enjoy reading another edition of Horn and More! In just a few days, IHS 58 will begin in the historic city of Kraków, Poland. This will undoubtedly be a hot event, but it's highly anticipated and will certainly be very exciting—especially for the opportunity to bring our community together and share moments of conviviality through music and culture. I am particularly excited and honored to be a Featured Artist at IHS 58, alongside talented artists from diverse regions and countries who are great models for all of us. The program will be rich and diverse, an incredible demonstration of how vibrant our horn world is. I hope to see many of you in Kraków for an unforgettable IHS 58! The event organizing team, as well as the IHS team, will do everything possible to ensure that those who cannot travel to Kraków have access to up-to-date event information. I suggest you follow it all on our social media channels.

Around the world, there will be many activities taking place where the horn and horn players will be the stars. It’s time to plan attendance to enjoy these very special activities and cherish the company within our great community.

The talented team at Horn and More has prepared an exciting new edition: I would highlight the article by our esteemed Randy Gardner, “Homage to Teachers.” Layne Anspach brings us a more comprehensive perspective on the T. Madsen Horn Trio, and Vidhurinda Samaraweera offers us another interesting article on the various facets of the horn in South Asia. As always, we still have the two anchor pieces, our Pedagogy and Student columns, with very useful tips for students and teachers. Additionally, we have a special Symposium welcome from our fantastic president, Peter Luff.

As the international coordinator for IHS, I would like to take this opportunity to express, on behalf of IHS, our solidarity with our Venezuelan friends during this very difficult time they are going through. May you find strength and resilience to live through the present and find hope for the future!

Mucha fuerza y ánimo!
