Barry Tuckwell (1931-2020)

The International Horn Society mourns the passing of one of the greatest of the great, Barry Tuckwell. Horn players, the world over, have been greatly influenced by this tremendous artist in so many ways; through his incredible career as a soloist and orchestral principal horn, his superlative recordings (arguably the most recorded horn soloist in history), his many years of teaching and presenting masterclasses across the globe, his dedicated and selfless service to the horn and the profession (as Chair of the London Symphony Orchestra, founding Chair of the British Horn Society, and the first President of the International Horn Society), and, last but certainly not least, his charming wit and engaging personality. All horn players have been the beneficiaries of his immense energy and persistent striving for excellence, and the music world has been blessed by his huge presence. Tributes to Barry and his legacy will be forthcoming in The Horn Call and the Society's monthly digital newsletter, and the Society extends its sincerest condolences to Barry's family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all, but never forgotten.
