IHS Forum Acceptable Use Policy

The IHS forum exists for the purpose of exchange of ideas and opinions related to the horn, horn playing and music in general. As such, advertisements and links from commercial "for-profit" businesses are discouraged; the Marketplace and Member News sections are the appropriate venues for commercial postings.

The IHS reserves the right to administer, edit and/or delete at any time the submissions to this forum.

The IHS does not assume any responsibility whatsoever for the content of the postings here, and will not mediate over disputes, transactions, or submitted posts.

Frizelle Competition Rules and Repertoire Requirements

Award:
Four winners will be chosen to receive an orchestral coaching session, during the IHS International Symposium, with four professional orchestral hornists chosen from workshop artists and advisory council members. Winners will also receive a one-year IHS membership

Age Requirements:
Must be less than 25 years of age on the first day of the international symposium.

Application Requirements:
Applicants can sign up on-line at the IHS web site (www.hornsociety.org/?), or by contacting the IHS executive secretary, Heidi Vogel, PO Box 630158, Lanai City, HI 96763, USA (phone/fax: 1-808-565-7273). If space is still available applicants can sign up at the registration desk for the symposium. At the contest, applicants will be required to show proof of full-time enrollment as a student and to be registered for the symposium.

Applications will be accepted in the order they are received. The contest is limited to the first 40 applicants. After 40 applications are received, a waiting list will be started and “no-shows” will be replaced from the waiting list.

Repertoire Requirements:
Applicants will be expected to perform selected high and low horn excerpts from the list below.

Applicants are responsible for securing their own music in advance of the audition. A performance copy will be provided at the audition.

Judging:
A committee appointed by the IHS Scholarship Chairs will evaluate performances. Judges will select both high and low horn excerpts from the list above at the time of the contest. The International Horn Society reserves the right to cancel the final competition or withhold one or more awards if, in the opinion of the judges, conditions warrant such action.

All participants will receive written evaluations by the judges.

Details regarding locations, times and procedures for the contest will be posted at the registration desk for the symposium.

Update Your Membership Record

Please keep your contact information included in the online database up to date, since mailing labels for The Horn Call and the annual directories are produced from this information. To update a name, postal or email address, a telephone number, etc. you must first log in to your account. If you have never done so, follow these instructions to do so.

Once you have logged in to your account, click on the "My Profile" link in the Member Menu that appears on login. Mouse over "Edit" and select "Update Your Profile" from the drop down that appears. Once you have checked to be sure that all the information in your profile is corect and is the way you wish it to appear in the directory and on mailing labels and your membership card, click "Update" to save the data.

Please note that membership and mailing information for the mailing of The Horn Call is sent to our publisher on the next to last day of January, April and September for the February, May and October issues, respectively. Changes made and new memberships created after those dates will take effect with the following issue. 

Feel free to add a picture to your profile by selecting "Update Your Image" from the same drop down. You can select one of the existing images from the gallery or upload a picture for your profile. Pictures must be in jpg, png or gif format, with maximum dimensions of 300x400 pixels and a size of less than 100KB.

Online Registration for Frizelle Competition Closed, but space still available

Online registration for the Dorothy Frizelle Mock Orchestral Audition competition that will take place at the 40th IHS Symposium is now closed. There are still places available in the competition, however, and those interested should contact Heidi Vogel at the registration table on the first day of the symposium.
