Other Details: Holton 77 with a custom Rauch-copy leadpipe by Miles O'Malley.

The Holton 77 was the original Farkas model instrument, a predecessor to the 178. This is a medium-bell horn, with a warm-but-focussed sound.

This particular instrument has been upgraded with a custom leadpipe by Miles O'Malley which is based on a Rauch pipe. I was able to try three different pipes on this instrument, and this one was the definite winner. The instrument already played extremely well without it, but the new pipe evened out the resistance across the registers and improved the slotting and projection. The result is a really fine instrument that plays every bit as well as any of my more expensive horns (and better than some).
