Job Description:

The Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis and the Memphis Horns have several openings for Undergraduate Assistantships, Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships.

All degrees BM, MM, DMA, and Artist Diploma have various forms of assistantships, fellowships, and scholarships attached.

Graduate Teaching Assistantships

The studio GA position provides a tuition waiver and stipend. The position will include teaching duties and assisting the studio as assigned. Membership in one of the premiere graduate chamber ensembles is expected. Available to DMA or MM/DMA accelerated applicants.

Additional work can be found in regional ensembles and private teaching. 

Graduate Fellowship

The graduate fellowship is a tuition waiver program with membership in one of the premiere graduate chamber ensembles. Additional duties will be assigned for stipend availability. Available for MM, DMA, and Artist Diploma students.

Memphis Symphony Orchestra Graduate Fellowship

The Memphis Horn studio is very proud to present the MSO Fellowship as a tuition waiver program. The position, upon successful audition, provides a salary for a set amount of performances with the MSO as a member of the section. This is a unique and extremely valuable experience to gain professional, real-world experience performing with a major symphony orchestra. Available for MM, DMA, and Artist Diploma students.

Additional tuition waivers, out of state fee waivers, and scholarships available. All students study with Professor Fant and perform in ensembles.

Additional work can be found in regional ensembles and private teaching. 

Diversity Fellowship Graduate Fellowship

This fellowship funded by the State of Tennessee is open to TN natives and residents to pursue a DMA or the MM/DMA accelerated degree. First generation PHD/DMA students who are from any minority (including white females) can receive free tuition and a stipend to pursue their terminal degree. The studio is very proud to have helped organize and participate in this program to foster and build great artist from underrepresented sections of society.

The Memphis Horns studio is a diverse and welcoming studio representing students from all cultures, backgrounds, and identities. We have students from multiple states, countries, and pursuing a variety of degrees. With weekly studio class, excerpt class, horn choir, and private lessons with Dr. Fant, you will get about 6 hours a week in one-on-one time with Professor Fant.
