DescriptionName: Cameron West
City: Jersey City
Country: United States
Serial Number: N55xxx
Alloy: Nickel Silver
Case: Yes (original and beat up)
Other Details: This is an N series Conn 8d from 1970, serial number N55xxx.
Condition: This body of this horn is in great shape for its age. The valves are tight and pass the “pop” test. The horn has dings throughout, and the second f slide in particular could use some dent removal.
The bell and bell stem are the most compromised sections of the horn. There is a small pinhole where the hand is placed in the bell that a previous owner tried to cover with solder. This hole will at the very least need a patch from a professional, but for the professional player, I would highly recommend replacing the bell stem and bell. There are also dings throughout these areas.
This horn needs a professional cleaning and has noticeable verdigris inside (green stuff). All of that said, this horn has an even, focused sound and slots well.
PLEASE READ: This instrument has a peculiar history. Though this horn has tapered valves and lacks the hollow bracings of the horns made in Abilene TX, this horn was not made in Elkhart.
