Rests in audition pieces was created by Kendall Betts
Question:

Mr. Betts,

One of the audition pieces for the Washington All-State band is Romanze from Mozart's 3rd Horn Concerto. Within the piece are one and two measure rests. Should I count them out (in my head) or just skip over the rests and go on to the next measure in which I play?

Thank you for reading!

Taylor Mills

Kendall Betts answers:

Dear Taylor,

Always a good question. My general rule is to count out short numbers of rests. I think this is appropriate in the Romanze of Mozart No. 3.

Good luck!

Kendall Betts
