Other Details: Conn 8D Elkhart "400,000" series - $4850. Built in February 1954, this horn is one of the famous pre-letter Conn 8D's of the late 1930's to 1950's. It has doulble perfels on the female slide inserts and a light bell (in the tradition of Kruspe horns). From 1960 on Conn 8D bells were spun thicker so that they could be sold to schools. This horn is one of the famous sounding horns widely used by many of the best hornists of the day and preferred by Arthur Berv, who assisted in the design with his Horner Model Kruspe. The horn has been stripped of lacquer (which was commonly done in the 1950s and 1960s to enhance the sound). The valves have been rebuilt and has a modern Conn 8D mouthpipe. It is very hard to find a pre-letter Conn 8D in this condition without patches.
