Original Compositions composed during the past two years featuring the horn as:
an unaccompanied instrument

2009 Composition Contest of the International Horn Society
RULES FOR ENTRANCE
- Requirements
- 3 scores and 3 demo cassettes or CDs
of a work featuring the horn: 1) as an unaccompanied instrument; 2) as
a solo instrument with accompaniment; OR 3) as a member of a chamber
ensemble.
- Scores must be clearly legible and bound. Indicate
on the score if the horn part is in F or concert pitch. Scores should
be printed on both sides of the paper if possible. Use of 8.5 x 11" or
A4 manuscript paper is appreciated.
- 4 copies of a brief description of the work.
- 1
brief biographical sketch. Include name of composition entered on this
sheet as well as contact information (full name, address, phone number
and email address).
- Composer's name and address must appear
only on the biographical sketch, not on any tapes, CDs, scores, or
descriptions. All works are assigned a number to guarantee anonymity
during judging.
- Entry fee of $15 U.S. in check or money order, payable to "The International Horn Society" through a U.S. bank.
- Entries must be received no later than December 1, 2009. Incomplete entries will not be returned.
- No more than one work per composer is allowed.
- Works
submitted must have been composed during the past two years, and any
composition that has received support from the International Horn
Society Meir Rimon Commissioning Assistance Fund is not eligible.

Scores and CD's/tapes will be returned to the composer if a postage-paid envelope is included in the entry materials

The panel of judges may withhold the awards if the works submitted are
deemed unqualified to receive such distinction. Judges may assign
Honorable Mention status to compositions not selected for a monetary
award.
- Contestants may expect to receive the results of the
contest by February 2010. Results of the contest, including a
description of the winning compositions and composer bio's will appear
in an issue of The Horn Call, the journal of the International Horn
Society (circulation: over 3,500 members from 55 countries).
- The winning compositions will be performed, if possible,
at an International Horn Society Workshop. The winning composers will
have the option of having the work published by the IHS Online Music
Library.
