Frøydis Ree WekreAfter a relatively late start, Frøydis Ree Wekre (b. 1941) made swift progress on the horn. After two years of study with Wilhelm Lansky-Otto and Vitali Bujanovsky, she was invited to join the Norwegian Opera Orchestra. In 1961, she joined the Oslo Philharmonic, and became co-principal in 1965. In 1991, she retired from the orchestra to be professor of horn and wind chamber music at the Norwegian State Academy of Music, where she already had a part-time position.

Renowned as a teacher and performer, Wekre has given masterclasses and workshops throughout Europe and North America. She is the author of On Playing the Horn Well, and served as IHS President in 1999-2000.
