The 40th International Horn Symposium will be held on the campus of the University of Denver, July 22-27, 2008.
It is with great pleasure that we announce the 40th International Horn
Symposium to be held in Denver, Colorado. This great event will be
presented July 22nd-27th, 2008 at the University of Denver's Lamont
School of Music.
Located at the base of the Rocky Mountains, Denver is one of
America's most beautiful cities, and noted for being the setting of
many fun activities. With its central location, Denver is a lively city
with a great love of the outdoors and is blessed with over 300 days of
sunshine a year. It has one of the highest educated populations in
America and a great love of the arts, boasting the second largest
performing arts center in the country. Denver provides an ideal setting
for The 40th Annual International Horn Symposium, hosted by Susan
McCullough, Instructor of Horn at Denver University’s Lamont School of
Music and Principal Horn with The Denver Brass, and Jesse McCormick,
Second Horn with The Cleveland Orchestra.
Initial work has begun and plans for the week include:
- Presenting a mass Horn Choir performance in conjunction with The Denver Brass at Red Rocks Amphitheater.
- Exposing
participants to Horn pedagogy through warm-ups, breathing/relaxation
techniques as well as special lectures and masterclasses.
- Pursuing a large representation of instrument, horn accessory, and sheet music exhibitors.
- Inviting and honoring artists that have had a major impact on horn playing around the world.
- Spotlighting university horn ensemble performances throughout the Symposium.
- Commemorating and celebrating the 40th year of International Horn Symposiums.
- Finishing
the week with a picnic at a nearby city park, or perhaps a get-away
into the mountains, catered with a "Colorado-style" barbeque dinner.
